Ford Motor has announced it will support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in its entire 2017 Ford and Lincoln vehicle lineup through its new Sync 3 connectivity platform. The automaker began rolling this latest iteration of Sync last year with the promise it would be available on all models by the end of calendar 2016. Faster and easier to use than any previous Sync generation, Sync 3 also now becomes the touchpoint for these two key smartphone apps -- which previously had not been available on any Ford or Lincoln model. This marks the quickest and most comprehensive implementation of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay by any auto manufacturer.

“We developed one platform – Sync 3 – and have been able to quickly offer the technology across our lineup,” notes Chuck Gray, Ford Global Director, Electrical and Electronic Systems Engineering. “Customers considering a new vehicle can now choose any 2017 model year Ford or Lincoln car, SUV, light truck, or electrified vehicle with Sync 3 and be able to access their favorite apps.” In addition to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, the Sync 3 system also supports a number of other popular apps including Spotify, Pandora, Ford PASS, AccuWeather and AAA member services.
