2017 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback unveiled
The redesigned 2016 Chevy Cruze Sedan will be getting a new sibling in the form of the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback. Set to arrive in showrooms here this fall in LT and Premier trims plus an a sportier RS, this more-practical take on Chevy’s global best-selling model will offer all of the same features as its 4-door kin, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on available MyLink systems featuring OnStar with 4G LTE and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
“With nine percent market growth in small hatchbacks last year, it’s the perfect time to bring the Cruze Hatch to America,” said Alan Batey, president, GM North America and Global Chevrolet. “As Cruze continues to set the tone for Chevrolet globally, it articulates the brand promise of offering cars with the latest technologies, more features and greater efficiency, performance and safety with fresh, distinctive styling.”
Sharing the same basic front-end styling and 106.3-inch wheelbase as the Sedan, the new Cruze Hatchback boasts a unique rear treatment that includes wraparound taillamps and an integrated liftgate spoiler. The spacious cabin provides two inches more rear legroom than key rivals like the Ford Focus and Hyundai Elantra while folding its 60/40 split rear bench increases cargo space from 19.5 to 42.0 cu ft.
At launch, the 2017 Cruze Hatchback will come with the familiar 153-horsepower/1.4-liter turbocharged direct-injected 4-cylinder Ecotec engine that includes fuel-saving Start/Stop technology. In addition to basic safety features, it also will offer a roster of optional driver assists highlighted by Lane Keep Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Park Assist. Buyers also can choose comfort/convenience upgrades that include Athens leather, heated steering wheel and heated front/rear seats. Pricing for the new 2017 Chevrolet Cruze LT Hatchback will start at $22,190 while the upline Cruze Premier Hatch is set to open at $24,820.
