Making its debut this week in conjunction with the annual BET Experience being held in downtown Los Angeles, the 2016 Nissan Maxima SR Midnight is the first dedicated accessory package to be created for the automaker's all-new "4-Door Sports Car" that went on sale barely a month ago. Combining a selection of factory and dealer-installed enhancements, this variant has a more distinct exterior and interior of an enthusiast-focused trim grade.

Starting with a Maxima SR in Super Black, the Midnight kit brings a color-matched rear spoiler, lower diffuser, rocker panel moldings and splash guards set off with black 19-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in 245/45 rubber that replace the 19-inch diamond-cut machined-alloy rims standard on a base SR. Inside, this new Midnight iteration boasts Charcoal premium-leather upholstery and features Alcantara inserts on the seats. The Midnight accessory group adds $2,735 to the $37,670 base price of a Maxima SR and with destination fees factored in, the 2016 Nissan Maxima SR Midnight costs $41,230.

Although Nissan made a point of introducing the 2016 Maxima lineup as a selection of mono-spec trim grades, it now seems likely the SR Midnight will be only the first in a series of alternative takes aimed at broadening the car's appeal.
