2016 Lexus IS Sedan updated
The 2016 Lexus IS Sedan lineup will offer a number of significant changes to the powertrains along with the availability of a new Premium Plus Package and Lexus Enform Service Connect. Buyers seeking to add a bit more dynamic character to any member of the IS family also will be able to opt for an F Sport upgrade.
New turbo entry model
The 2016 Lexus set will offer three distinct engines starting with a new Lexus IS 200t that replaces the current IS 250. Offered only in a rear-drive, the IS 200t packs a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder fitted with a twin-scroll turbocharger with direct injection. A variation on the engine in the NX Crossover, it's mated to an 8-speed Sport Direct Shift automatic transmission and develops 241 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, the latter available from 1,650-4,400 rpm.
Although the IS 250 AWD also is being mustered out of service, it will be supplanted by the new IS 300 AWD. Motivation comes from a modified version of the existing naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 tuned to make 255 horses and 236 lb-ft of peak torque from 2,000-4,800 revs. The engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic and an electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system that can vary front/rear torque balance from 30:70 to a 50:50 split depending on traction conditions. Topping the range and on offer in both rear- and all-wheel-drive form, the IS 350 retains the current 3.5-liter V6 that cranks out 306 horsepower and 277 lb-ft peak torque at 4,800 rpm. It's paired with an 8-speed automatic on rear-drive IS 350s and a 6-speed on the AWD models.
Other notable changes for the 2016 Lexus IS include new 18-inch alloys for IS 350 models, a heated steering wheel option, and the new Premium Plus Package. Requiring Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, the new option offers a power/tilt telescopic steering wheel and rain-sensing wipers. The extras roster also expands to include Lexus Enform Service Connect that allows owners use their smartphones or by visiting the LexusDrivers.com website.
Last but hardly least, Lexus will offer the performance oriented F Sport option across the entire IS Sedan lineup. Now enhanced with a backup camera with dynamic grid lines, F Sport kit brings unique body bits, 18-inch alloy wheels and LED headlamps, sport suspension/brakes, unique cabin trim with heated/ventilated sport seats, LFA-inspired gauges and an intake sound enhancer on all but the 200t model.
The 2016 Lexus IS Sedan will be arriving at West Coast dealers late next month and continue rolling out across the country through November. Pricing for the new IS 200t will start at $38,865 with the IS 300 AWD opening at $40,640, the IS 350 commencing at $41,810 and the IS 350 AWD beginning at $43,975.
