The redesigned 2016 Lexus ES sedan will make its debut at the Shanghai Auto Show. Little additional information accompanied this sole teaser image of the midsize 4-door, save for the fact that Lexus promises the ES "maintains its classical elegance while conveying a more dynamic experience and luxurious craftsmanship."

Introduced in 1989 and now in its sixth generation, the ES remains the best-selling sedan in the Lexus lineup. All-new three years ago, the car's mid-cycle refresh clearly will bring it more directly into line with the automaker's current styling language. We anticipate seeing similar enhancements made to its comfort/convenience/connectivity features as well as to its standard/optional safety systems. Whether this revamping also extends to the ES sedan's powertrain remains to be seen. However, with the need to bump fuel economy numbers, it seems likely the new 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder introduced on the 2015 Lexus NX 200t crossover could join or possibly even replace the existing 3.5-liter V6 or 2.5-liter 4-cylinder hybrid powertrains found in the current model.
