2016 Infiniti QX60 revamped

By Bob Nagy on December 16, 2015 7:55 AM

Unveiled at a special preview in Detroit prior to its debut at the North American International Auto Show, the 2016 Infiniti QX60 gains a bolder appearance as well as dynamic upgrades and a selection of new tech touches aimed at making it more competitive in the midsize luxury SUV segment until an all-new iteration arrives in 2017. The 7-passenger QX60 will continue to be offered in front- or all-wheel drive and with a conventional gasoline V6 that makes 265 horsepower. Also available is a more fuel-efficient hybrid that mates a 2.5-liter supercharged 4-cylinder and an electric motor to generate a combined 250 horses, both backed by CVT automatic.

Quieter, more comfortable cabin

The new Infiniti QX60 boasts new front and rear fascias that bring it more closely into line with the current divisional look. Up front a Q50-style double-arch grille is framed by new LED-infused bi-xenon headlamps and running lights. The redrawn rear tail gets similar tweaks gaining a bit more brightwork and a supplemental shark fin antenna. Less visible but no less welcome is new acoustic glass in the side windows that give the QX60 class-leading NVH control at a constant-speed cruise.

Adding more charm to the well-finished passenger compartment, the 2016 QX60 complements its long list of standard equipment with several new trim choices and accents along with additional soft-touch surfaces. Performance of the standard tri-zone climate control system also has been enhanced and V6-powered versions gain three additional USB charging ports, one for the second row and two for the third. Close-quarter maneuvers also will be easier thanks to the new Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection.

More refined handling

The 2016 remix also brings a retuning of the QX60's strut-front/multilink-rear independent suspension. New springs and shocks add comfort and control while 235/60 all-season tires enhance grip and balance. Rounding out the roster of changes is a revamped vehicle-speed sensitive power steering that provides better feel and feedback. In addition to seven new option packages that afford greater personalization, the 2016 QX60 will add Forward Emergency Braking to its formidable roster of available safety features. The 2016 Infiniti QX60 lineup will arrive at dealers in spring 2016 and pricing will be released closer to the actual on-sale date.
