The new 2016 Buick Encore Sport Touring model joins the carryover lineup this fall boasting a new and more potent turbocharged engine along with a host of cosmetic and functional enhancements. Slotted between the existing Encore Convenience and the Encore Leather trims, this impressively appointed newcomer will be available in both front and all-wheel drive.

A key improvement on the 2016 Encore Sport Touring is under the hood, where GM's new global 1.4-liter EcoTec 4-cylinder engine replaces the existing 1.4-liter force-fed four that will remain standard in other 2016 Encore variants. Beyond moving from port-to direct fuel injection and gaining efficiency boosting start/stop technology, this new motivator -- which also will appear in the all-new 2016 Chevrolet Cruze -- cranks out 153 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque, gains of roughly 11 and 20 percent compared to the 138/148 output of the Encore's base engine. Still backed by a 6-speed automatic transmission, Buick says this new EcoTec four will deliver stronger low- and mid-range response as well as better mileage in stop-and-go driving conditions.

"Encore is a driving force behind Buick's expansion and a catalyst for introducing a new generation of customers to the brand," noted Duncan Aldred, U.S. vice president of Buick. "The all-new Encore Sport Touring broadens that base, giving customers more choices - along with more performance, more technology and more efficiency." Pricing for the 2016 Buick Encore Sport Touring as well as the rest of the 2016 Buick Encore lineup will be announced closer to the on-sale date.
