2016 BMW X5 xDrive40e Plug-in hybrid priced
The U.S.-spec version of the 2016 BMW X5 xDrive40e plug-in hybrid will start at $63,095 when it goes on sale this fall. Unveiled earlier this year, the world's first plug-in Sports Activity Vehicle is powered by 2.0-liter TwinTurbo Power 4-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric integrated into the housing of its Steptronic 8-speed automatic transmission. The X5 xDrive40e will develop 308 combined horsepower and 332 lb-ft of peak torque good for 0-60 mph acceleration of 6.5 seconds.
Fed by a 9.0kWh lithium-ion battery pack tucked beneath the rear cargo floor, the new X5 xDrive40e will be able to travel up to 13 miles in pure EV mode. While final EPA stats are still pending, BMW says its upcoming on-off-road warrior has a preliminary fuel economy estimate of up to 55 MPGe.
