2016 Audi A6/S6 updates revealed

The 2016 Audi A6/S6 models are making their first appearance in full U.S. trim at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Like their revamped 2016 A7/S7 sportback siblings, these midsize sedans boast a new look and various powertrain enhancements. Key exterior changes to these Audi 4-door sedans center on bolder fascia contours complemented by a redrawn single frame grille flanked by thin-line LED headlamps. The rear sports an elegant look with trapezoidal exhaust outlets and slimmer LED taillights that incorporate sequential turn indicators.

Returning in Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige trim levels, the 2016 A6 cabin offers new Flint gray and Cedar brown leather trim choices while the high-performance S6 continues with unique cross-stitch sew pattern upholstery but adds a new bespoke Arras red option. Buyers can opt for fully ventilated comfort seats that bring a programmable 5-mode massage capability. Like the A7/S7, the 2016 Audi A6/S6 gain an upgraded MMI voice-controlled navigation plus system with a touchpad linked to a power-retractable, 8.0-inch color monitor. Also in the mix is a Modular Infotainment Platform with standard Audi connect and internet via a 4G LTE connection that brings an integrated Wi-Fi hotspot handles up to eight devices.

The A6 will continue to offer three engine choices, including a new 2.0-liter/4-cylinder 2.0T that makes 252 horsepower - 32 more ponies than the current engine. It's paired with a 7-speed S tronic automatic on front-drive models and an 8-speed Tiptronic on the A6 2.0T Quattro. The Quattro/Tiptronic combo is standard on all other family members, as well. While the 3.0-liter TDI turbodiesel V6 carries over unchanged at 240 horses, output of the 3.0-liter supercharged V6 in the A6 3.0T rises from 310 to 333 horsepower. At the head of the class is the enthusiast-grade S6, which retains its 560-horse/4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. The 2016 Audi A6 and S6 will arrive here in late spring/early summer. Pricing will be announced closer to the actual on-sale date.
