2015 Ram 1500 Rebel breaks with convention
Serving up its own brand of off-road style and capability, the 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel made its debut in Detroit. Expressively fashioned to meet the expectations of active adventurers seeking a custom look with even more go-anywhere ability, the new Rebel becomes the ninth different variation on the Ram 1500. Available in Quad Cab and Crew Cab and rear- or 4-wheel drive, it's arguably the coolest looking of the lot, as well.
Visually, the Ram 1500 Rebel breaks new ground on several levels, the most prominent an all-new grille that replaces the signature "cross-hair" configuration with a new blackout bar treatment highlighted by a bold billet silver RAM logo in its center. That sinister theme extends to an equally new-look powder-coated bumper as well as black 360-degree tow hooks and headlamp bezels. Rounding out this Ram's recast face is a powder-coated silver skid plate. Black accents grace the Power Wagon-style wheel arches, hood and box as well as lower body side molding on two-tone Rebels - a monochrome theme also is available for any of the five available colors. An oversize black RAM logo dominates the tailgate of the Rebel's 5-foot 7-inch bed, which is framed by black-bezel taillamps, underscored by a black powder coated bumper and capped with a new tri-fold black tonneau. All the badges are also flat black while the new 17-inch aluminum wheels feature matte black painted accent pockets and are wrapped in standard 33-inch 285/70 Toyo Open Country A/T tires.
The Rebel's cabin trim reprises its bold exterior themes, although all versions share a common Radar Red and Black basic color palette set off with Light Diesel Gray and Iron Gray accents. The seats are covered in durable technical grain vinyl with Sedoso fabric inserts embossed with the Toyo tire tread pattern. Other bespoke touches include a heated steering wheel, unique instrument graphics, all-weather floor mats and an all-new center console bin with a cell phone/tablet holder that can accommodate a variety of different size electronic devices.
Standard air suspension with extra ground clearance
Motivation for the new Ram 1500 Rebel will come from either the 305-horsepower/3.6-liter Pentastar V6 or 5.7-liter/395-horse Hemi V8. Both will be backed by an 8-speed automatic, but only Hemi-spec variants will be available with rear-wheel drive. While the Power Wagon remains the ultimate Ram off-road warrior, the Rebel aims to trail fairly close behind. Complementing its all-terrain tires and 3:92:1 gears, all Rebels feature a multi-mode air suspension that includes a 1-inch raised ride height coupled with best-in-class 10.3 inches of ground clearance for improved approach/departure/breakover angles. The remix also includes unique steering calibration and chassis geometry that complements custom-tuned Bilstein shocks and a softer rear stabilizer bar. All models can be enhanced with an optional anti-spin rear differential and supplemental skid plates as well the versatile Ram Box lockable storage bins.
The 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel arrives in showrooms during the second half of 2015. Pricing will be released closer to the actual on-sale date.
