2015 Chevy Corvette ZO6 sprints to 60 mph in 2.95 seconds
It's no surprise that the all-new 2015 Chevrolet Corvette ZO6 was created to deliver some fairly amazing performance numbers. But just released manufacturer stats indicate this all-America supercar will be nothing short of world class on every level. The good news starts with its blistering acceleration. A Corvette ZO6 fitted with the optional paddle-shifted 8-speed automatic transmission managed to streak from 0-60 mph in just 2.95 seconds and burn through the quarter mile at a stout 127 mph. While backing the new 6.2-liter supercharged LT4 V8 that makes 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque with a standard 7-speed manual extends the 0-60 interval to a merely spectacular 3.2 ticks and raises the elapsed time from 10.95 to 11.20 seconds, it does nothing the reduce terminal velocity through the traps.
Tadge Juechter, Corvette chief engineer, points out this quintessential quickness was helped in no small measure by the presence of the optional and ZO7 Performance package that bolsters the standard Magnetic Ride Control and Performance Traction Management systems with the most aggressive aerodynamics package ever offered on any Corvette as well as ultra-sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and Brembo carbon ceramic brake rotors. Beyond enhancing straight-line prowess, that formidable combination also saw the 2015 Corvette ZO6 trim a full second off of the existing production-car lap record around the 2.9-mile road course at GM's Milford Proving Grounds, up the 1.13g best-ever lateral acceleration figure set by the Corvette ZR1 to 1.20g and halt this raucous road-rager from 60 mph in just 99.6 feet.
"The defining aspect of driving the Z06 is seamless integration of power, technology and aerodynamics," notes Juechter. "As a result, the Z06 delivers ferocious acceleration, tenacious handling, and high-speed stability that few cars can match." Arriving in showrooms early next year, 2015 Chevrolet Corvette ZO6 Coupe will open at $78,995 while the ZO6 Convertible will start at $83,995.
