2015 Audi R8 Competition: 570-hp road rocket

Drawing inspiration from the automaker's successful R8 LMS racer, the 2015 Audi R8 Competition will make its global debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Like that famed GT/endurance-racing machine, the new R8 Competition gets it motivation from the firm's 5.2-liter naturally FSI V10 nestled amidships. Here, it's tuned to crank out 570 horsepower - 20 more than the engine in the current R8 V10 Plus model - making this 2-seater the most powerful production model in Audi history. Backing this potent V10 is a 7-speed S-tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission that ships power to each corner via Audi's Quattro all-wheel-drive system. The combination lets the R8 Competition streak to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and hit a top speed of 199 mph.

To suitably reinforce its track-themed character and improve downforce at speed, the new Audi R8 Competition also boasts functional exterior tweaks. Everything from its unique front splitter, aero bits, mirror housings and side blades to the engine cover, fixed rear spoiler and aggressive diffuser are rendered in weight-saving matte carbon. The R8 Competition rides on 19-inch gloss black alloy wheels wrapped in low-profile Pirelli P Zero performance tires and stopping chores are handled by carbon-ceramic disc brakes with red anodized calipers. The matte-carbon theme carries over to the leather-lined cabin of this born-to-be-fast Audi, which also features custom illuminated "R8 Competition" door sill inlays. Because it's an Audi Exclusive Line vehicle, owners will be able to specify a variety of interior/exterior colors and wheel finishes.

Only 60 copies of the 2015 Audi R8 Competition will be heading to the U.S. While Audi has yet to release a final price, it will begin taking orders for the car in early November, with deliveries to commence in early 2015.
