2014 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible confirmed for Geneva

In what had to be the worst-kept secret in years, Chevrolet has finally 'fessed up to the fact that the 2014 Chevy Corvette Convertible will make its official world debut next month at the Geneva Auto Show. While Chevy offered no other details on the drop-top version of the new C7 Corvette, it's expected to be a mechanical clone of the new Coupe that was the undisputed star of last month's Detroit Auto Show.

In commenting on the news, Susan Docherty, president and managing director of Chevrolet and Cadillac Europe, noted that "It's fitting to introduce the new Stingray convertible on the global stage at Geneva because Corvette is the face of Chevrolet the world over." According to Chevy, there are Corvette owner and enthusiast clubs in more than 100 countries, and 58 percent of the 1.1 million fans who "Like" Corvette's official Facebook page currently reside outside of the U.S.

Like the first retail production C7 Coupe that sold for $1.05 million at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale collector car auction with proceeds going to benefit the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, the first retail production Convertible will also go on the block for charity. This time, the bidding will occur at the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach collector car auction on April 4-6 with proceeds being used to benefit the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute in southeast Michigan.
