2013 McLaren 50 12C and 12C Spider limited editions unveiled
To help mark its 50-year history of success in the automotive/racing business, McLaren is preparing a pair of commemorative vehicles that will be officially presented at the company's anniversary celebration set for September 2nd. As their names imply, each of these special 2013 McLaren 50 12C and 12C Spyder models will be built in a maximum run of 50 units.

Produced by McLaren Special Operations, both the coupe and open-top versions of these unique 12C variants boast subtle exterior tweaks as well as focused mechanical upgrades. Available in Carbon Black, Supernova Silver or heritage McLaren Orange, the cars feature a recast front bumper that has been aero optimized using F1-style computational fluid dynamics to provide greater downforce and a front floor made from race-spec carbon Kevlar. The cars also feature carbon fiber turning vanes and a bevy of bespoke badges, including one on the driver's door that highlights its limited-edition status. All McLaren 50 models also come with unique Ultra Lightweight 19-inch front/20-inch rear alloy wheels that are finished in Satin Black and are 4.4 pounds lighter than the optional Super Lightweight rims. Upsized carbon-ceramic brakes also are included in the McLaren 50 mix.

The cabin of each McLaren 50 12C/12C Spider comes with the full leather upgrade and features custom sill plates and floor mats as well as a unique limited-edition key in a carbon fiber presentation box. Other goodies in the accompanying swag bag include a monogrammed black and silver car cover and a specially commissioned print signed by McLaren Automotive Design Director Frank Stephenson. U.S. pricing for the McLaren 50 12C and 12C Spider has not yet been released, but UK buyers will be asked to shell out roughly $296,000 for the former and $326,000 for the latter.
