2013 Chevrolet Spark - 2011 LA Auto Show
Ready to roll as the new junior member of the Bow Tie division's lineup, the 2013 Chevrolet Spark brings its own fresh perspective to the minicompact segment. Borrowing numerous cues from the Chevy Beat concept that was introduced at the 2007 New York Auto Show, the four-passenger/five-door Spark is aimed at younger, urban buyers looking for a combination of high value and great fuel economy. Offering bold colors, contemporary design cues and an impressive feature set, this new Spark iteration has been purposefully updated from the version sold elsewhere in the world to meet the demands of the U.S. and Canadian markets.
Measuring some 14 inches shorter than its Chevrolet Sonic cousin, the Spark will become the smallest vehicle in GM's North American lineup when it goes on sale in early 2012. But despite its diminutive footprint, Chevy says this front-drive hatchback has more interior room than any of its current peers and holds an advantage when it comes to cargo space, as well.
The 2013 Chevy Spark will be available in LT, 1LT and 2LT trim levels, all with upscale standard touches like air conditioning, power windows and 15-inch alloy wheels. Beyond several personalization packages, it will offer options that include items like a premium color-touchscreen radio, Bluetooth connectivity, Sirius Satellite Radio and heated leatherette seats plus Chevrolet MyLink infotainment connectivity with Pandora and Stitcher internet radio, the latter being standard on upline 1LT/2LT versions. Key safety standards include StabiliTrak electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes, GM's OnStar telematics and a class-leading 10 airbags.
All Spark models will be fitted with an 85-horsepower/1.2-liter four-cylinder engine and offer the choice of a standard five-speed manual transmission or an optional automatic. While final EPA figures have not been finalized, Chevrolet promises the Spark will deliver "competitive" fuel economy with either cog-changer. Pricing specifics will be released closer to the Spark's on-sale date.
