2013 Audi A4/S4 - 2012 Detroit Auto Show
Revealed in Europe last November, the updated 2013 Audi A4 and Audi S4 sedans made their first auto show appearance in Detroit and will go on sale here in the spring. Beneficiaries of an impressive mid-cycle remake, the baseline A4 and its performance-oriented S4 sibling boast bolder nose and tail treatments that also bring revised headlamps, taillamps and LED running lights. The most prominent changes can be seen up front, where a new take on Audi's signature single-frame grille, larger air intakes and more prominently arched hood give both a more dynamic visual character.
The focused recasting continues inside, where new color combinations and wood/alloy trim availability and restyled flat-bottom steering wheels complement reconfigured and more user-friendly infotainment and climate controls. However, the most significant upgrade is the availability of Audi Connect, which allows the A4/S4 to serve as a mobile hotspot for up to eight Wi-Fi enabled devices. Previously this factory-installed wireless technology had only been available on Audi's A6/A7/A8 lines. Also joining the A4/S4 options roster for 2013 is the Audi Driver
Assistance package that includes active lane assist, Audi dynamic steering that can vary both the ratio and effort of the car's power steering system and adaptive cruise control with "stop & go" and "brake guard" capabilities that can detect stationary vehicles and automatically apply full stopping power at speeds up to 19 mph. Powertrain elements will carry intact on these compact Audi offerings, in both front-drive and all-wheel drive Quattro configurations. The 2013 Audi A4 will be fitted with a 2.0-liter turbocharged TFSI four that makes 201 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque while S4 will be fitted with a 3.0-liter supercharged TFSI V6 that churns out 333 horses and 325 lb-ft of twist. Expect pricing information on all A4/S4 models closer to their on-sale date.
