2012 McLaren MP4-12C will arrive stateside priced at $231,400

Although U.S. sales won't commence until late summer, the 2012 McLaren MP4-12C will definitely live up to its promise of delivering exceptional value in addition to stunning performance. McLaren has just announced that its carbon-fiber, mid-engine supercar will sticker for a comparatively modest $231,400, a figure significantly below any other all-composite exotic currently on the market. In announcing its U.S. price, Antony Sheriff, managing director, McLaren Automotive Limited, noted: "When we embarked on the challenge of creating a new sports car company, we knew that coming to market with a vehicle that was 'as good' as the competition was not good enough. It was clear we needed a unique concept that offered clear advantages. We are extremely proud to be able to offer the 12C at a price that has not been realized by a carbon fiber-based vehicle before."

Like McLaren's Formula One racing cars, each new MP4-12C will be handcrafted at the organization's ultramodern Technology Center in Woking, Britain. Matching its single-piece MonoCell carbon-fiber chassis with a 592-horsepower/3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 mounted midship, seven-speed dual-clutch paddle-shifted transmission that drives the rear wheels and race-bred chassis and brake components, the MP4-12C tips the scales below 2,900 pounds. McLaren says that combination will allow it to streak from 0-124 mph in under 10 seconds and stop from 100 mph in less than 100 feet.

The first in what McLaren Automotive Chairman Ron Dennis promises will be a family of dedicated high-performance vehicles, the new McLaren MP4-12C will be sold through a network of 35 outlets worldwide. Ten of those will be in North America, including U.S. dealers in Beverly Hills, Newport Beach and San Francisco, California; Greenwich, Connecticut; Miami and Tampa Bay Florida; Chicago, Illinois; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Dallas, Texas as well a tenth sales point in Toronto, Canada. The McLaren MP4-12C will offer plenty of personalization potential, including the availability of custom "McLaren Orange" exterior paint that was a hallmark of the organization's legendary racing cars of the 1960s-70s.
