An impressive restyling of the mid-size 2012 Jaguar XF and its more powerful 2012 Jaguar XFR/Supercharged siblings endows all with a bolder yet more sophisticated appearance and nets a comprehensive upgrading to the already elegant interior trimout.

Although Jaguar characterizes changes to the 2012 XF lineup as bringing the car more into line with the look of its flagship XJ sedan, a good deal of the automaker's striking C-XF Concept that appeared in 2007 also can be seen in this 2012 re-mix. The entire front clip of the XF has been redone and features a larger, more vertical grille with a deeper setback framed by a slimmed-down set of HID bi-xenon headlamps semi-encircled by "J-blade" LED running lights. The edgier soft fascia features model-specific reshaped lower air intakes and leads onto reshaped fenders and hood -- louvered on the XFR/Supercharged variants -- that boast a lower/sleeker profile. Out back, new full-LED taillamps extend more deeply into the decklid while a new rear diffuser rounds out the changes that also include restyled alloy wheels.

Inside, the 2012 Jaguar XF lineup boasts new XJ-inspired color and trim combinations for its standard leather and wood appointments plus  redesigned seats that offer enhanced comfort and support, more legible TFT-type main instrument displays and a host of lesser detail upgrades. In keeping with its upscale character, the car also will be available with three new premium audio systems, highlighted by 1,200-watt/17-speaker tour de force package from British sound gurus Bowers & Wilkins.

While the Euro-spec 2012 Jaguar XF will be available with a new 2.2-liter turbodiesel engine paired with an equally new eight-speed automatic transmission, powertrain offerings for the U.S. remain unchanged. The standard XF and XF Premium will be fitted with a 385-horsepower/5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 while the like-sized but force-fed V8's in the XF Supercharged an XFR will make 470 and 510 horses, respectively. All will be backed by a six-speed automatic transmission. The 2012 Jaguar XF lineup goes on sale later this year.
