2012 Fiat Abarth 500 - Los Angeles Auto Show preview
Details are still pretty limited, but Fiat has confirmed that the much-anticipated 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth variant will make its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. As would be expected from any car carrying this legendary name in high-performance motoring, the U.S.-spec Fiat 500 Abarth will share much in common with its hot Italian sibling, including a distinctive body kit, full sport suspension, bigger wheel/tires/brakes, enthusiast-oriented interior upgrades and a turbocharged version of Fiat's 1.4-liter MultiAir 4-cylinder engine that could develop anywhere from 135 to 160 horsepower.
Abarth, which officially became a part of Fiat Auto in 1970, has a long and successful history with Italy's largest automaker that began in the mid-1950s. This latest collaborative effort at demonstrating less really can be more -- the 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth -- is designed to appeal to track-day enthusiasts and driving-purists who want the ultimate high-performance small car that offers the pedigree of an exclusive Italian exotic but at a far more affordable pricepoint.
