2012 Ferrari 599 GTB 60F1 celebrates 60 years of Grand Prix wins
With its successor due at the Geneva Auto Show in March, Ferrari wanted to bid farewell to its most powerful production model with appropriate honors. To that end, it has created the 2012 Ferrari 599 GTB "60 Years of Victories in Formula 1" limited edition," aka the Ferrari 599 GTB 60F1. Officially, it commemorates the Scuderia's winning F1 legacy that began in 1951 when Froilan Gonzalez won the British Grand Prix in a Ferrari 375 F1 and continued on to the 2011 season, when Fernando Alonso took the checkered flag in the current Ferrari 150° Italia, also at the British GP.
The Ferrari 599 GTB 60F1 is based on the upgraded HGTE Package that further sharpens the already impressive handling and responsiveness of the standard Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano. Each of these hand-crafted 599 GTB 60F1 models will be produced as part of the firm's exclusive Tailor Made Program. While buyers can choose from three different exterior liveries that recall period Ferrari F1 color schemes, all of the cars will carry the same signature Scuderia Ferrari shield on their front fenders and be fitted with 20-inch diamond-finish alloy wheels as well as a satin-finish aluminum gas cap.
The interior trim of the Ferrari 599 GTB 60F1 also draws inspiration from the racers piloted by Gonzalez and Alonso. Dark primary shades set off by contrasting accent colors complement deeply contoured sport seats upholstered in Alcantara and an ultra-grippy "innovative technical material" known as Superfabric. As a proper finishing touch, each Ferrari 599 GTB 60F1 also will carry a custom silver plaque that commemorates 60 years of Ferrari victories in Formula 1 and features the signatures of Froilan Gonzalez and Fernando Alonso.
