Offering a first look at the kind of personalization items it plans to offer for the upcoming 2012 Chevrolet Sonic, the division revealed its initial line of Z-Spec accessories. According to Rick Scheidt, vice president of Chevrolet marketing, these items were selected to help reinforce the Sonic's fun, youthful spirit. "Customization is particularly important with the customers we believe will gravitate toward the Sonic, and we want to help them make their vehicle look exactly the way they want as easily as possible."
Save for 16-inch and 17-inch painted alloy wheels, the initial Z-Spec portfolio is largely confined to cosmetic enhancements highlighted by a color-matched ground-effects body kit that includes a front fascia extension, rocker panel extensions, rear fascia extension and a silver exhaust tip. Other Z-Spec exterior items include contrasting mirror caps and roof spoiler, contrasting upper and lower grille surrounds and a body graphics package plus color accent packages in "Black Out" or "White Out" guise, the latter being pictured here. For now, Z-Spec interior upgrades for the 2012 Chevy Sonic are confined to aluminum sport pedals and sill plates.
The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic is set to arrive in dealers this fall. Scheidt says additional accessories and graphics packages will be added to the Z-spec mix over time. Equally important to buyers most likely to be considering this front-drive subcompact sedan and hatch: Z-Spec goodies will be available individually or in packages and their cost can be incorporated into the car's monthly payment schedule.
