2012 Chevrolet Corvette Centennial Edition - First look
Intended to celebrate the division's 100 years of successful participation in various forms of motorsport, the 2012 Chevrolet Centennial Edition Corvette is a new package that will be available on all Corvette models starting this summer. Offered exclusively in Carbon Flash Metallic, the Centennial Edition kit -- order code "ZLC" -- brings enhancements that add a solid measure of badder-boy attitude inside as well as out.
Beyond its bespoke paint, the 2012 Chevrolet Corvette Centennial Edition's exterior tweaks include satin-black graphics and unique lightweight cast-spun aluminum Centennial Satin Black wheels that feature a thin red perimeter outline on the Z06. Coupe, Convertible and Grand Sport models will be fitted with 18-inch/19-inch rims while the Z06 and ZR1 get 19-inch/20-inch alternatives. All cars will come with red brake calipers and feature Magnetic Selective Ride Control.
Inside, Ebony leather with red stitching accents dominates, while the seats, steering wheel and armrests feature microfiber suede accents. The headrests have an embossed Centennial Edition logo and the steering wheel hub carries the same "Louis Chevrolet 100" graphic found on the car's B-pillar and wheel center caps. Arguably the most subtle variation to be found is seen in the signature crossed-flags exterior badge, which sees the traditional fleur-de-lis element replaced with "100" in all Centennial Edition cars.
"Racing and performance are the roots of Chevrolet, a tradition carried forward today by Corvette," said Rick Scheidt, vice president of Chevrolet marketing. "The Centennial Edition not only celebrates our 100 years, it once again pushes Corvette forward for a new generation of sports car fans. Louis Chevrolet was a fearless racing pioneer who also designed our first car. The Corvette is a natural fit to honor that legacy, while creating a compelling new package for sports car drivers."
The first 2012 Chevrolet Centennial Edition Corvette made its public appearance this weekend at the Barrett-Jackson collector car auction in West Palm Beach, Florida. It was purchased by auto megadealer and motorsport mogul Rick Hendrick for $175,000, with all proceeds from the sale being donated to the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer. The 100th 2012 Corvette to roll off the line in Bowling Green, this fully loaded Z06 variant boasted the Z07 Performance Package, Z06 carbon fiber hood and the CFZ Carbon Fiber Package along with its ZLC Centennial Edition goodies.
