2011 Volkswagen Golf Cabrio - Geneva Auto Show

Although there's still no decision as to if or when it will ever see our shores, the new 2011 Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet is set to go on sale in Europe shortly after it takes the stand in Geneva. Based on the recently introduced Gen VI Golf platform architecture, this slick al fresco exercise maintains a solid family resemblance but matches a more rakish windshield angle with a new power soft top that can be raised/lowered in less than 10 seconds and at speeds of up to 18 mph. VW designers spared no efforts to give the car a far more aerodynamic profile than its predecessors, especially when it's running in open-air mode. Unlike all previous Golf/Rabbit converts that have been missing from the lineup for nearly a decade now, this new 2011 Golf Cabriolet tucks its top neatly -- and nearly invisibly -- away in a well above the trunk and dispenses with the old "basket handle" roll bar in favor of a pair of rear pop-up hoops like those found on the VW Eos and New Beetle.
