2011 Mazda MX-5 Miata Special Edition - 2011 Chicago Auto Show

Mazda recently announced that production of its seminal two-seat roadster had hit a milestone 900,000-unit total. To help celebrate that occasion, it unveiled the 2011 Mazda MX-5 Miata Special Edition in Chicago. Only 750 of these commemorative variants will be built, all based on the top-line Grand Touring version of the Power Retractable Hard Top (PRHT) model. Finished in either Sparkling Black Mica or Dolphin Gray Mica, the Special Edition will be fitted with 17-inch Bright Finish alloy wheels.

Inside, the Special Edition gets unique gray door trim, heated leather seats and various lesser trim touches to reflect its distinctive status. Thanks to its standard Premium Package enhancements, this maxi Miata also comes with a Bluetooth hands-free phone system, six months of free SIRIUS Satellite Radio, an anti-theft alarm and the Advanced Keyless Entry and Start System as well as Xenon headlights and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) with a Traction Control System (TCS).

Mazda made no changes to the powertrain of the MX-5 Miata Special Edition. The 2.0-liter twincam four still cranks out 167 horses when paired with the six-speed manual transmission that features a short-throw shift kit; and 158 ponies when teamed with the six-speed automatic that brings steering- wheel-mounted shifter paddles. However, the car is fitted with the trick Suspension Package, which includes Bilstein shocks, a limited slip differential (LSD) and a performance-tuned suspension.

Pricing for the 2011 Mazda MX-5 Miata Special Edition starts at $30,925 when equipped with a manual transmission and $31,525 for autoshifted cars.
