It requires 17 cowhides

Every Mulsanne interior requires 17 cowhides per vehicle, minimum. There are literally hundreds of swaths of leather in each car. It is fair to say, said one Bentley representative, that the company buys its leather "in herds, not hides," and from farms in places where biting insects and barbed wire fences are few and far between so as to ensure that there are few, if any, untoward marks on these pampered cows' skin. And the human contribution to the leather effort is nearly as impressive...each steering wheel, for example, requires from 3.5 to 5.5 hours of the craftsperson's life to sew.
