2010 Geneva Auto Show: 2011 Fiat Abarth 500C
A bit of high-performance eye candy and the subject of at least hopeful thinking for U.S. consumers is headed to Geneva in the form of the Fiat Abarth 500C. On sale elsewhere later this spring and based on the standard 500 convertible that is definitely heading to our shores, this Abarth-abetted mini-missile benefits from both cosmetic and functional upgrades that add a new level of pure fun to its basic open-air character.
Like its current Abarth 500 coupe counterpart -- which is coming to America -- this new convertible from Fiat's in-house go-fast group boasts a fairly comprehensive body kit that includes bigger air intakes, bulgy fenders, custom side sills and a unique rear diffuser as well as bigger 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in stickier tires. Pulling back its manually-activated soft top reveals an interior that benefits from a series of similar theme-specific enhancements, including special leather-clad sport buckets, unique gauges and racing-style aluminum pedals. But the heart of the Fiat Abarth 500C lies underhood where Fiat's 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder churns out 135 horsepower and 133 lb.-ft. of torque until the driver pushes a button on the dash that bumps that max-twist figure up to 152 lb.-ft.
