2010 Audi A3 2.0 TDI: It's Coming!

Last year we had the opportunity to drive a diesel-powered Audi Q7 TDI crossover from New York to Chicago -- via Washington, D.C., and Cleveland -- as part of the Audi Mileage Marathon, a cross-country road trip designed to help introduce next-generation diesel power to America. While we were realizing impressive highway fuel economy of more than 30 mpg in the Q7 TDI, A3 TDI drivers were achieving better than 50 mpg on some legs. No longer was the diesel Q7 enough; we wanted Audi to bring the A3 TDI to America, too. Now, it looks like our wish has been granted. The Audi A3 2.0 TDI is scheduled to arrive in all 50 states in early 2010, with the same 2.0-liter diesel engine that recently powered the VW Jetta TDI to the 2009 Green Car of the Year award. The front-wheel-drive five-door will feature a sporty and efficient S tronic dual-clutch transmission, along with an expected EPA highway fuel economy rating of more than 40 mpg. We can't wait.
