2009 Volkswagen Tiguan: Touareg Meets GTI

Volkswagen officials have described the all-new Tiguan as the GTI of crossovers. The automaker's answer to compact- crossover stalwarts Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4, the Tiguan indeed sports the GTI's 200-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine in combination with a choice of six-speed manual or automatic (not DSG) transmissions. Unlike the GTI, the Tiguan will offer a choice of front- or all-wheel drive. Option highlights include rear park assist, a panoramic moonroof and a hard drive-based navigation and music system. Expect to see it in Summer 2008 with prices starting just over $22,000.
