15 Best Family Cars of 2015

For a second year the Nissan Pathfinder gets the nod as one of the best family cars you can buy. This 3-row crossover SUV is on the large end of the midsize segment, and its extra size adds up to more cargo space and more room for passengers to stretch out.

It's All About Access

It's not just the roominess that makes this 7-passenger Nissan SUV stand out. It's the ease of access the Pathfinder provides. After all, what's the use of having two rear rows if getting to them requires acrobatics? To that end, the 2015 Nissan Pathfinder stands out for its EZ Flex Seating system, which enables access to the third row even when a child seat is latched into the second. Up front, Mom and Dad are treated to the good view out that the Pathfinder provides, and easy-to-use controls for audio, climate settings and more. Higher-end trims offer even more to enjoy, such as climate-controlled seats, a heated steering wheel, and a steering wheel that automatically moves in and out to allow easier access upon exit and entry, and the snazzy Around View monitor that creates a virtual bird's-eye view when backing up.

Powerful and Efficient

On the road, Nissan's family hauler has become more refined for 2015 thanks to improved transmission feel. With the new D-Step Shift Logic, the Pathfinder's standard continuously variable transmission (CVT) feels more like a traditional automatic while providing fuel economy up to 27 mpg -- laudable for a V6-powered SUV. As noted in our full review of the 2015 Nissan Pathfinder, "If refinement and car-like handling are more important than off-road and towing ability, we think Nissan's 2015 Pathfinder crossover SUV should be at the top of your shopping list."
