15 Best Family Cars of 2015

Like the 2015 Toyota Camry, the Hyundai Sonata has been redesigned for the latest model year. New looks both inside and out make it one of the sharper dressed offerings in the segment. A starting price of $21,150 makes the Sonata an attractive option but then you remember the class-leading 10-year, 100-000 mile warranty and suddenly it's hard to look away. During our first contact with the 2015 Hyundai Sonata, we found the direction the automaker was taking to be fascinating in a segment filled with the likes of the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. So far, it appears this strategy has worked and although it didn't take home the gold in our inaugural Best Buys Awards for 2015, the Sonata did give the Accord just about all it could handle.

Plenty of Bang for the Buck

Our expert review of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata touches on standard features like a driver's blind spot monitor, a 60/40-split fold-down rear seatback, iPod and USB ports, and Bluetooth. Optional equipment that will make life easier include navigation seen through an 8-inch touchscreen, heated front and rear seats, ventilated front seats, and a panoramic tilt/slide sunroof. Then there's the trunk, which is cavernous in its own right, but the rear seats fold down giving up more room for cargo. Strapping a child seat into the back seat of the Sonata isn't an exercise in futility either. In fact, it's quite the opposite actually as it's one of the easier midsize sedans to install one in.

Impressive EPA Numbers

There are four different engine options available in the 2015 Sonata but Hyundai expects the 2.4-liter inline-4 cylinder engine to lead the way. Rated at 185 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque, the Sonata's volume engine is EPA rated to return 25 city/38 highway/32 mpg combined. For those wondering, that's 2 less mpg in the city, 2 more mpg on the highway, and 1 more mpg combined when compared to the Honda Accord.
