2011 Ford Flex EcoBoost

Codename: Two Tone

Like a robot, pretending to be a tank, pretending to be a helicopter, Two Tone's deception goes two layers deep. Layer 1: As the closest thing to a minivan in Ford's lineup, the Flex is charged with mundane family hauling (a role obscured by a boxy design and contrasting paint scheme nabbed from the MINI Cooper). Layer 2: What family wagon ever came with a high-output EcoBoost engine and all-wheel drive? Wild or responsible? Decepticon or Autobot? Two Tone does both.

Starting price: Around $43,000
Engine: 3.5-liter turbocharged V6
Output: 355 horsepower, 350 pound-feet of torque
0-60 mph: Around 7 seconds (less with 6 screaming kids aboard)
Cargo capacity (behind first/second/third row): 83.2/43.2/20.0 cubic feet
