Ford made its 6.8-liter V8 the standard engine for Super Duty trucks just a few years ago, but that’s changing for the next model year. According to the 2027 Super Duty order guide, the automaker has cut the current base engine in favor of the 7.3-liter V8 nicknamed Godzilla. Buyers also lose access to the standard-output diesel engine.
The move leaves Super Duty trucks with two engine options, with the high-output 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel as the only upgrade. While that could mean a slight price increase for 2027, it also brings a slight power boost to the base configurations.
Ford’s 6.8-liter V8 makes 405 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque, while the 7.3 offers 430 hp and 485 lb-ft of torque. Stepping up to the 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel adds more than $13,000 to the truck’s bottom line, but it also delivers 500 hp and a massive 1,200 lb-ft of torque.
Other changes for 2027 include wider availability of the Tremor package, which will be offered for all trims, new lighting options, and a 35-inch XL Off-Road tire package.
We don’t yet know if base pricing will increase or by how much, but the 2027 order guide has been available for more than a week, so details will likely arrive soon.
