Those who seek out the high performance of the Aventador SVJ coupe will soon have a second option. Lamborghini unveiled the Aventador SVJ Roadster.
As Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Automobili Lamborghini explains, “The Aventador SVJ Roadster inherits all the power, performance and ground-breaking aerodynamic technologies of the coupé, but with its own iconic presence and prowess. It is as fundamentally exciting to drive as the Aventador SVJ but with an added exclusivity: the option of the open air. With the same extraordinary performance roof on or off, the Aventador SVJ Roadster incorporates the dynamism of the coupé with the unique spirit of a Lamborghini roadster.”
The coupe on which the roadster is based is the most powerful series production V12-powered car from Lamborghini, and has the best lap time at the Nurburgring. The roadster uses lightweight materials and an active aerodynamics system. The Roadster is powered by a naturally aspirated V12 engine with 770 horsepower and 531 lb-ft of torque, goes from 0-62 mph in 2.9 seconds, and has a top speed of more than 215 mph. The Roadster’s roof, made from high-pressure RTM carbon fiber, comes off by using quick-release levers in the cockpit, and stores under the front hood. The roadster only weighs 110 pounds more than the 3,300-lb coupe.
There will only be 800 of the Aventador SVJ Roadsters produced. It was shown in matte bronze, which is a new color from Lamborghini. The 2020 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster will be sold worldwide, with a suggested price of $573,966 in America, plus a gas guzzler tax. Customers will start receiving the roadsters in summer 2019.
