Debuting in Geneva, the new 2018 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo is the automaker’s first sport wagon ever and carries with it a serious high-performance pedigree. Based on the redesigned 2017 Panamera sedan and slated to arrive late this year, Porsche’s 5-door estate will be available in four models, each fitted with all-wheel drive and having its own unique powertrain.

Distinct wagon styling

Like the Panamera Sedan, the new Sport Turismo measures 198.8 inches from end to end, is 56.2 inches tall and has a 116.1-inch wheelbase. While the two share exterior styling from the B-pillar forward, from there back, this distinctive wagon is unique thanks to reshaped greenhouse, elegant D-pillar and a flowing roofline. The tail o the car sports what Porsche calls the first adaptive extendible rear spoiler. Controlled by Porsche Active Aerodynamics, it assumes one of three positions depending on vehicle speed and/or the driving mode selected and can help enhance fuel economy at low speeds or add up to 110 pounds of downforce when in its most aggressive “Performance” setting that occurs when the Sport Turismo is running over 55 mph in Sport/Sport Plus modes.

The Panamera Sport Turismo also boasts a new rear seating arrangement. Although the cockpit is common with the sedan, the wagon's new 2+1 rear seat is split 40/20/40 featuring bucket-like outboard positions with backs that can be individually folded. The standard Panamera’s electrically adjustable twin individual seats are optional. There’s more usable stow space as well, nearly a cubic foot of added basic cargo capacity and three cubic feet with the seats folded on all but the E-Hybrid version. It also offers a new luggage compartment management option that adds rails, adjustable tie-downs and a cargo net. Access to the rear is via a large hatch with a low 24.7-inch liftover.

Full range of models

Except for the gas/electric combo being introduced in the 680-horse 2018 Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid that’s also bowing in at Geneva, the Panamera Sport Turismo will offer the same powertrain choices as the sedan when it launches here. Anchoring the family, is the Panamera 4 Sport Turismo that packs a 330-horsepower/3.0-liter turbocharged V6 and opens at $97,250. The Panamera 4S Sport Turismo commands $110,250 and has a 440-horsepower/2.9-liter twin-turbo V6. Also fitted with that 2.9-liter V6 plus an electric motor, the plug-in Panamera 4 E-Hybrid Sport Turismo boasts 462 horsepower and carries a $105,050 sticker while the $155,050 Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo puts out  550-horsepower with 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8.
