Following on the heels of the more powerful Aventador S Coupe, Lamborghini has taken the wraps off the 2018 Aventador S Roadster at the Frankfurt Auto Show. This new variant offers extreme performance from its normally aspirated 740-horsepower 6.5-liter V12 engine. The 7-speed Roadster can accelerate to 62 mph in just 3.0 seconds and has a top speed of 217 mph.

“The new Aventador S Roadster sets new benchmarks in technology and performance on both road and track, with the roadster version adding a new dimension in driving enjoyment,” said Stefano Domencali, chairman and CEO of the company. “The Aventador S Roadster offers the thrill of open air driving without compromising on driving dynamics and occupants’ comfort.”

Distinct design

Additional time was needed to develop the Aventador Roadster’s aerodynamic look, which differs from the coupe with a new engine cover, removable hardtop panels and an electric power rear window. The engine cover, which is a mix of body color and matte black finish can be replaced by a clear one to show off the V12 engine. The roof panels, which are concave to provide additional headroom weigh only 14 pounds each and can be easily stored in the front trunk. The panels can be specified in body color, shiny or matte black carbon fiber, as well as gloss black.

Five interior schemes are available in leather, Alcantra or a combination of the two in both single and bi-color combinations. The inside of the roof panels can also be specified including standard black Alcantara framed by black matte carbon fiber or an optional Carbon Skin package, a high-tech fabric that’s lighter than Alcantara.
