BMW has revised 2018 2 Series Coupe and Convertible lineup which goes on sale here in July. The changes affect the 230i and M240i models as well as the M2 Coupe. The upgrades include cosmetic and functional tweaks that add more curbside appeal while enhancing the driving experience. All powertrains carry over unchanged for 2018. Available in rear-drive or AWD configurations, the 230i models pack a 248-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder and the M240i versions have a 335-horsepower, 3.0-liter turbo inline-6. The rear-drive only M2 packs an M-spec forced-fed 3.0-liter that develops 365 ponies. Transmission choices again include an 8-speed Steptronic Sport automatic or 6-speed manual.

Beyond several new color choices, the key 2 Series exterior changes are found up front. They include a wider twin-kidney grille design and larger outboard air intakes as well as new standard Bi-LED headlamps which can be upgraded to corner-following adaptive units. Revised full-LED taillamps and new bi-color alloy wheels round out the remix.

More inviting cabin

Inside, the 2 Series and M2 upgrades bring more upscale trim plus a restyled dash that matches enhanced graphics with improved ergonomics. The Sport Line package is standard while the plusher Luxury Line is an option that brings additional leather and wood appointments. The standard 6.6-inch display for the iDrive 6.0 system expands to an 8.8-inch high-res touchscreen when the optional Navigation System–which includes a new and improved Voice Control function—is added. The BMW 2 Series also offers Apple CarPlay compatibility that allows the owner’s smartphone to wirelessly integrate with the iDrive controller or touchscreen.

The full range of driver assist systems currently on offer for the 2 Series carries over for 2018, including Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, the Driving Assistant Package with lane departure warning and city collision mitigation and parking assist. Pricing for the new BMW 230i, M240i and M2 models will be announced later.
