2009 New York Auto Show: Ford Transit Connect Family One Concept

By KBB.com Editors on April 8, 2009 10:38 AM
Combining the silhouette of a cargo van with computer technology and loads of interior space, the Ford Transit Connect Family One Concept is designed to be the most utilitarian mommy mobile on the planet. Based on Ford's forthcoming Transit Connect commercial van, the Family One fills the 135 cubic feet of interior space normally reserved for equipment or cargo with mood lighting, two large digital screens and seating for five. Family-friendly features include dispensers for sunscreen or hand sanitizer, built-in erasable white boards, walkie talkies and a multitude of storage compartments that hold book bags, scooters and strollers. A main highlight of the Family One Concept -- one that carries over from its commercial counterpart -- is the Ford Work Solutions system with radio frequency identification (RFID) technology. This system prevents parents from for forgetting things, as items such as backpacks or sports equipment can be tagged and tracked. The driver will be notified when a necessary item is missing when taking the kids to school or any other event. Pretty cool.
