LA World Premiere: 2009 Infiniti G37 Convertible

A luxury car division without a convertible is like a California winery without a cork screw. With the next spring thaw, however, Infiniti dealers will have a fresh crop of G37 retractable hardtop convertibles, all waiting for new homes. Of course, using the gorgeous G37 Coupe as its base leaves little room for anything but a homerun hit, and going with a retractable hardtop over a less expensive cloth option keeps the G37 competitive with its arch rival: BMW's 3 Series. Changes from the G37 Coupe are subtle but substantial. The rear track is slightly wider and the rear suspension has been beefed up to deal with the top's added weight. The rear deck lid is about in inch shorter and with the top retracted storage space is greatly reduced. There's also an optional Bose Open Air audio system featuring integrated headrest speakers and a digital processor for optimized EQ settings depending on the top's position. The good news is that Infiniti has not diluted the convertible's sporting intentions, offering the 325-horsepower drop-top with a choice of a seven-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission.
