2008 BMW M3 Coupe and Sedan: First V8 is a Lightweight

By KBB.com Editors on December 28, 2007 11:53 AM
The first M3 featured a four-cylinder engine. The next two boasted six cylinders. The latest has been fitted with a 4.0-liter V8 that puts out 414 horsepower at a stratospheric 8,300 rpm and can achieve 60 mph in 4.8 seconds, according to BMW. One of our favorite details about the new engine is that while it's bigger and more powerful than its six-cylinder predecessor, it's also lighter and more fuel efficient. Other highlights include a sophisticated set of performance-enhancing electronics, many of which are customizable by the driver. Expect the M3 in spring of 2008 at a starting price in the mid-$50,000 range.
