2011 Cadillac CTS KBB Expert Review
No Cadillac better exemplifies the current state of the brand's design than the 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe. Benefiting from a standard 304-horsepower V6 and an awesome 556-horsepower V8 in the Cadillac CTS-V Coupe, this two-door is a worthy competitor to luxury giants such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi. The Cadillac CTS family also includes a four-door sedan and a wagon.
You'll Like This Car If...
If you've longed for an American luxury coupe you can be proud of, the 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe is the real deal.
You May Not Like This Car If...
If you insist on an import brand there are many fine alternatives from the likes of BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Jaguar, Lexus and Infiniti.
What's New for 2011
The sleekly styled Cadillac CTS Coupe joins sedan and wagon variants of the CTS in the brand's lineup. The 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe comes in four trim levels: The base 3.6L V6, the mid-level 3.6L V6 Performance, the 3.6L V6 Premium and the V8-powered CTS-V Coupe.
On racetracks, twisty two-lane roads and fast freeways we came to appreciate the 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe's responsive steering, world-class road-holding and powerful brakes. Delayed reactions from the automatic transmission's manual shift mode and the conspicuous lack of a competition mode for the electronic stability control were minor annoyances during aggressive driving. Given its performance prowess one might expect a correspondingly stiff ride, but the CTS Coupe's suspension remains surprisingly supple even on the most troubled surfaces. We loved the posh, quiet cabin's cheerfully luxurious design, and the multi-adjustable seats were uncommonly comfortable.
Bose 5.1 Cabin Surround Sound
This system boasts surrealistic sound, a 40-gigabyte hard drive and iPod integration. It will download and store your CD collection and operate your iPod from the pop-up touch screen.
Advanced Navigation System
The 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe's navigation system offers real-time traffic and weather, expanded voice prompts and 3-D imaging of major landmarks. While its large center dash-top touch screen pops up fully on demand, the top portion peeks out to display key information even when stored.
The 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe imparts a dramatically different interior design theme for Cadillac, with emphasis on tasteful ornamentation and hand-crafted details. The instruments, vents and other elements are framed in chrome and the center stack blends seamlessly into the lower instrument panel and console. Hand-cut, hand-sewn and hand-wrapped coverings with French stitching are used throughout. Thanks to the coupe's more-compact dimensions and sloping rear roofline, the 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe has notably less interior space than the four-door CTS Sports Sedan. Rear seating is tight, especially when all the seats are occupied or when carrying taller passengers.
The exterior of the 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe is characterized by a bold two-segment grille, chrome side air extractors and sculpted fenders that emphasize its wider track and athletic chassis. Most interesting is the rear view, which is defined by a long roofline and an abbreviated rear decklid. Narrow vertical tail lights recall the fins found on Cadillacs of yore. Despite the elimination of rear doors, the CTS Coupe is only three inches shorter than the CTS Sedan. Distinguishing the high-performance Cadillac CTS-V Coupe from the regular model are a mesh front grille, bulging hood design, subtle V badges and large round exhaust outlets.
Notable Standard Equipment
Inside the 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe are dual-zone climate controls, power seats, a Driver Information Center, an auto-dimming rear view mirror, and an eight-speaker AM/FM/CD Bose audio system with SIRIUS XM Satellite Radio and MP3 capability.
Notable Optional Equipment
All V6-powered 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupes are available with either rear- or all-wheel drive. The Luxury Package adds LED interior accent lighting, wood trim, a heated steering wheel and a back-up camera. The Performance Package includes 19-inch wheels fitted with summer tires and a sport-tuned suspension. A navigation system with touch-screen is offered but not on the base trim.
Under the Hood
The 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe comes equipped with a 304-horsepower, 24-valve, direct-injection V6 paired with either a standard six-speed automatic or, on all but the base trim, an optional six-speed manual, which lowers the car's price by $1,300. Cars with all-wheel drive can only be equipped with the automatic transmission. Buyers who spring for the high-performance CTS-V Coupe are treated to a 556-horsepower V8, matched to either a six-speed manual transmission – with a notably heavy clutch pedal – or a six-speed automatic. The kind of otherworldly physics that come into play when this much power is sent to the ground are truly a joy to behold.

The 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe has a starting price of around $39,000, which is higher than base prices for the BMW 3 Series or the Audi A5. The most-expensive V6-powered Cadillac CTS Coupe checks in around $50,000. The high-performance Cadillac CTS-V has a starting price close to 64,000. To see what others in your area may have paid for their CTS Coupe, be sure to check the Fair Purchase Price on kbb.com. On the resale side, the CTS is expected to hold less of its value over time than either the BMW 3 Series or Audi A5.
