"When I called Buick to ask them why they discontinued the Riviera in 1999 when I had hoped to buy another, they stated that the market was not there for a luxury coupe. Funny, it seems to be there for Mercedes, BMW, and many others.
The styling is still fresh and not dated. It still does not look like anything else out there. Very quiet and comfortable. Nice finish on everything (unlike it's Aurora cousin). Plenty of power for a car its size and fun to drive. This car has never let me down in over 170K miles and still rides like a new car.
Buick had a concept car called the LaCrosse a few years ago that was very much like the Riviera but got canned. I was waiting in line for that car. The actual LaCrosse that came out was not anything like it. While Buick still tries to throw some style in their line, they have gotten much more conservative and mainstream."
"My 1997 Buick Riviera has 181,000 miles on it. This supercharged Buick has been the best car I have ever owned. Was going to trade it at 100,000 miles , but could not let it go. No rust, no tears in the leather , and the paint looks like new. This is a car worth the money spent. I am getting a new SUV in two weeks and will have the Engine and Transmission rebuilt on this Riv. even though it runs and drives well. I love this car for road trips, it is quiet on the road and rides so smooth. The big car feel and the big leather seats make for an enjoyable road trip. Buy one of these and you will like it."
"I have driven this 97' Riviera for 20,000 enjoyable miles. The winsome character of this sleek coupe is unmatched. The interior leather, lacquered wood and accoutrements add eye appeal to a very comfortable driver. The supercharged V6 has more torque acceleration than other V8 luxury coupes I owned. It's effortless cruising at 74 mph and 2100 revs. I am a Buick man because they're reliable. Replaced the MAF sensor along with regular maintenance and baths. This Riviera sure doesn't drive like your grandpa's Buick."
