Executive class sedans are “tweeners” positioned between luxury flagships and compact sport models. As this matchup of the 2020 Genesis G80 and 2020 Jaguar XF, they show that they are equally at home on the open road or shuttling rear-seat passengers in comfort.
2020 Genesis G80
Above Average: A luxury sedan at a more reasonable price that comes with impressive features and good looks. It is also available with all-wheel drive
Below Average: No plug-in or hybrid model available
Consensus: The 2020 Genesis G80 compares handily to other, pricier German vehicles and, in some cases, outdoes them, though it does have less name recognition.
2020 Jaguar XF
2020 Jaguar XF Starting Price: $50,960 | Price Yours
Above Average: Good looking styling and engaging to drive
Below Average: Lacking in some technology features, smaller dealer network
Consensus: The 2020 Jaguar XF gets some small upgrades for this year, including the elimination of the diesel engine, the addition of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, and parking sensors.
G80 vs. XF: Functional luxury
The 2020 Genesis G80 is the midsize sedan offered by the luxury arm of Hyundai, Genesis. While the brand is still establishing itself, Genesis builds solid competitors for the more well-known brands like Lexus, BMW, and Audi. The G80 is no different. It offers fantastic value versus its rivals, offers good dynamics, and is backed by a class-leading warranty. It boasts all the features of many of its competitors at a price that’s tens of thousands less. It’s comfortable and quick on the road, the steering is responsive, and it comes with a full suite of safety features including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring. Inside, it is classy and refined though it does not offer the wide screens you might find in a Mercedes or the high tech cockpit view as you might find in an Audi.
The 2020 Jaguar XF gets a few updates for this year, including new colors, a new limited-edition trim, and the elimination of the diesel engine from the line-up. It is athletic and agile on the road but manages to keep things smooth and refined at the same time. For 2020 Jaguar has added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, as well as new rear parking sensors. Inside it, has thoughtful, if not relatively simple layout complete with touch-sensitive map lights and dual-zone climate control. Controlling the infotainment system is a little bit wonky and takes some getting used to.
Good looking midsize sedans that offer good driving dynamics and technology.
Genesis G80 Advantages
Pricing and a stellar warranty
Jaguar XF Advantages
A rarer find these days as more automakers move out of the sedan space
The Genesis G80 is the best bang for your buck in this case. The XF is aging a bit and is in need of a refresh.
