I own this car - My approximate mileage is 60,060
overall rating 9 of 10rating detailsPros: "Solid and safe feel, quick, looks, seats, radio."
Cons: "the check engine light is moody, (p)leather worn"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10
"I have only had this car for a few weeks now and got it with very low mileage. This is our third Volvo (740GL, S60). This car is quick for a sedan, has a great feel and very quiet on the highway. The gas mileage is 22.5 combined. The standard radio sound is good and this car is just built well and it shows. It's not very often that one can brag about a 15 year old car."

"I have a 1998 Volvo s70. I have owned this car for 6 years and I still get pleasure from this car! I like the way it looks, its' driving characteristics, the ergonomics (especially the analog gauges and comfortable bucket seats), and its trunk space. This is the third Volvo I have owned (I had a 940 and an 850), and I can honestly say I appreciate the quality and safety features of this vehicle."

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 200,000
overall rating 10 of 10rating detailsPros: "Luxury, economy, safety, reliability"
Cons: "Expensive parts, poor air condition, depreciates"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10
"I have ran an 850 wagon SE last 8 years, bought same in a GLT sedan for my son (it is fast), and couldn't resist the low price for an S70 T5 SE (I can't stop working on and detailing to make perfect it is that nice). People joke about how well I keep my cars, the 850SE wagon has 450Km and runs and looks like new. Mind you I am the kind of guy that goes into thrapy of the slightest dome light goes out. The GLT feels like a rocket, nothing touches it on the road, and my sone an I are in debate whether it has been chipped, given the more luxurious T5 SE doesn't seem as fast, or rather the acceleration isn't felt as it seems like a slightly heavier car. I have had two 244 DLS as well years ago, I know Volvos. They don't break often. When they do, avoid the dealers, they are a fortune. If one shops for the original parts on online and has a mechanic than stealership install, it will cost less to drive a better car than anything North American or Offshore. What ever they aspire to do, Volvo has done. My SEs are luxurious, the GT is light and nimble, all are bullet proof as their greatest strength. Very relaxing for very long drives. They are the best, literally. Mind you I bought these in fear that 96-98's are becoming scarce and I understand they are the best ones. After Ford took them over. I don't know, I read a lot of horror stories. Get on in good condition as major parts are expensive and you may be driving years and maintenance free. I can't say enough about them, they are great."

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 140,000
overall rating 3 of 10rating detailsPros: "fun to drive, safe"
Cons: "sensor problems, volvo parts, gas mileage"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 3
"Bought the car in 2007 with almost 100k on it. About two months later the O2 sensors went out. Mechanic suggested we use genuine sensors repair was $700 after tax! Then a year later they went out again!!! Needless to say I am not paying for that again. Throttle problems from day one. Now we need to replace the throttle sensors and body. Fuel line became disconnected. Brakes seem to go faster than most vehicles. Valve cover gasket went bad. Turbo needs rebuilt. Gas mileage is only around 19mpg. I will give it some credit. When it did run properly it was a dream. Just understand that a vo has the same issues as any other car on the road, but it cost about 4x more to fix it."

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 115,000
overall rating 9 of 10rating detailsPros: "Safe, lasts a long time, worth repairing"
Cons: "Expensive to repair but worth it. No cons really!"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9
"I bought this car used, with under 60,000 original miles on it in 2009. I think it was a salvaged vehicle, but the repair man who sold it to me had done a lot of work on it and got it up and running in tip top shape. We have had issues with the engine and suspension, but it's never once not started (except when the ignition switch dry rotted and had to be replaced for almost $400). I paid $4000 for it, and have put about that much into in the past 3 years, but it's such a good and safe vehicle that I want to keep it for my 18 year old to drive. It's in the shop right now, and repairs are about $1000 to get it road worthy again, but it's still better than buying another car and having issues that we don't even know about as well as a car payment. I hope it will take her another 100,000 miles and that we have no more major expenses with it. P&A Smith Auto in Cary, NC works on this car for us and has done nothing but a superior job at a good price."

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 190,000

Cons: "high cost of maintenance"

"I have owned this car for about 7 years. The first five years were wonderful I had minimal repairs on the vehicle. I drove this car long distance and around town. It has good gas mileage and the car drives great! This is until I drove it on a long trip in bad weather, for the last 2 years the car has been sitting because of the cost of fixing it. The vehicle needs a new motor due to massive oil leaks. I received very bad estimates on cost to fix the vehicle, even the Volvo dealership didn't know as much as they should oh how to fix this type of problem. I later found a mechanic and a used motor plus installation is going to cost about 2500.00...I could just buy a new one. So to the point this is car is great if you have no problems with it. The cost of repairs are insane, beware if you can barely afford the vehicle don't purchase it if you think you can't afford to fix it. That said most of the major repairs before I purchased it showed they cost an average of 600-1200 for anything that goes wrong with the car. Had I known I probably would not have bought this car in the first place, on the other hand I had five years of driving the car with little or no issues."
