Pros: "Gas efficiency"

Cons: "access is a challenge (for people with disability)"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"Interior critique is based on our physical needs as we age. Hard for passenger to access car since seat is very low. Too bad car most manufacturers ignore the older generation in this regard. Otherwise everything about S40 is great! Just went on short road trip and clocked fuel efficiency. On flat interstate we did 48 MPG average at 50 MPH; 45 MPG average at 55 MPH; typically stayed at over 40 MPG average at 60 to 65 MPH. I find this truly amazing considering car is 11 years old and I have just serviced it once a year since we got it in 2004."

we enjoyed it for 150,000 miles

Pros: "nice interior/exterior, handles well, fun to drive"

Cons: "doesn't hold its value, expensive to fix"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 7

"We ordered this car new 8 years ago and have put 150,000 miles on it. We loved this car. At 8 years old, it still looks great, and it still handles better and rides more smoothly than our brand new Toyota. However, it has needed repairs lately, and every repair is very costly compared to working on other vehicles. Also, in our area there are no certified Volvo mechanics, and other mechanics are either hesitant to work on it, can only do certain repairs, or they refuse to work on it altogether. The car also did not hold its value well. I would buy another Volvo in the future because we did enjoy this car for a long time. However, I would either put less miles on it or trade it in once it got to about 100,000."

Safe and sound not made for living in.

"I just got my volvo this past summer. It is such an awesome car. Unfortunately I was involved in an accident recently and it is totaled. I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW SAFE I WAS DURING THE ACCIDENT. My airbag went off and the front took all the damage but I am a-okay. Very safe car, will definitely be getting another volvo soon."

Pros: "Fun to drive, great price, low mileage when bought"

Cons: "Had to get fixed within two weeks"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"My hubby bought this for me for our anniversary (January 2015). It's a great car and he got it for a great deal. Under 10,000 and when he bought it it was 89,800 miles. Only issue I had with it was the steering lock column when out and had to get it towed and replaced within the second week (over $500) but I still love it. Best car ever, very luxury, very safe, best gift ever,"

Pros: "So much fun to drive and driver seat is comfortable"

Cons: "Stay up on the maintenance"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"I've had two VW vehicles. Volvo has been much more reliable. Excellent driving dynamics, solid and safe car. Still enjoy driving this car eight years later after signing papers. Plan on buying another Volvo. Retains its value and still looks great. No one believes it is eight years old. If you buy one with cloth seats, you can install new custom leather for $1400-1800. Use synthetic oil Michelin tires and premium gas and this car runs so smooth. Change the cabin filter every 15k miles and change the transmission fluid every 30K for best results. Get the sunroof drains cleaned out periodically for $100 and There's a new better quality molding strip you can use around it to prevent leaks."
