Pros: "Is fun to drive and comfortable"

Cons: "High-priced mechanical repairs"

"I have owned my Touareg for 3 years, We have had a major transmission rebuild ( which was covered under our extended-warranty ) and major engine work, which was not. I like the size and weight of the car - but it is tough on brakes and tires. The car is over-engineered- meaning simple problems are big problems in a Touareg. Small things break ( for example my parking brake handle ) and I have changed more tail lights and headlights in this car than in any of my three other SUV's combined. It is definitely a high-maintenance vehicle. My advice is to buy and keep an extended warranty on this car."

Pros: "Fun to drive, very stylish and versatile"

Cons: "Not wonderful fuel economy in city driving"

"For 11 years prior to buying my Touareg, I drove new Audi A6's. The sport sedan qualities of the Audi A6 bi-turbo are well known and are second to none. Eventually, I realized I needed/wanted an off-road capable vehicle, but still wanted the luxury and road handling prowess that I was accustomed to with the Audi. And boy did I ever find it in spads with the VW Touareg 3.0 TDI. Good grief! This SUV is everything I ever hoped for in an SUV and more. Premium luxury features, superb fit and finish and a solid build and a slot-car like driving character. The Touareg TDI is brimming with torque and personality! So far, the most expensive repair I've had was a replacement HID headlight for $240.00. The Touareg has never failed or left me stranded. Other items have been burned-out turn signal bulb and turning lamp bulb. That's it! I have driven my Touareg coast-to-coast and the highway experience was nothing shy of perfect! Quiet, stable, great visibility and excellent fuel economy. Hit 27 MPG on several stretches of Interstate on cruise control. The standard audio system is quite good and the entertainment center that comes with the Tech package is excellent. 10 gigs of memory for music. 12-way adjustable and comfortable seats make for long days on the road in comfort. The downside to this vehicle is its poor fuel economy in congested city driving. But oh well . . . ."

Pros: "Very safe, easy to park, comfortable and fun"

Cons: "Expensive, premium gas, poor backseat design"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9

"I replaced my beloved 2001 Lexus RX 300 3 years ago after a scary accident driving in the mountains in Colorado, and chose the Touareg because it felt like the heaviest, safest vehicle I could purchase in the mid size SUV range. (I test drove 14 mid size SUVs.) After owning and operating the thing for 3 years, I have almost no complaints. It feels safe in even the worst snow conditions and it off roads like a Jeep. It has luxurious features that I cannot live without, like heated seats and heated side mirrors, a backup camera and comfortable leather. It’s surprisingly compact for an SUV but doesn’t compromise cargo space. My main cons for the vehicle are the overall cost of ownership and the way the back seats fold down. The car requires premium fuel, and somehow manages to boast a 26 gallon fuel tank, so filling up every 10 days or so can be very costly. Additionally, everything about the car is beefy and quality, so replacing the brake pads, for example, requires replacing a few other parts as well that brings the total to over $1000. I also have to take it to a specialty shop for things like oil changes, since it’s a VW and a complex one at that. Lastly, and probably my biggest complaint, are some of the weird seat features of the passenger and back seats. Notably, the passenger seat features a fully manual set up, which is an odd contrast to the highly digital adjustments of the driver seat. I also really dislike the way the backseats fold down, which is important because my car doubles as a portable garage to haul my bike, skis and camping gear around. To fold down the seats, you have to first remove the headrests, then lift up the bottom seat, then fold down the back of the seat. To add insult to injury, the middle seatbelt in the back has a locking mechanism that gets stuck, and requires a trip to a shop to unbolt the bottom of the seatbelt hydraulically, pull the seat up, and then rebolt it. After two visits to fix this, I just left the middle back seatbelt unbolted permanently. Overall, if my biggest complaint is the back seat, I think this car is pretty darn perfect. And safe and fun and functional to boot!"

Pros: "Beautiful inside and out"

Cons: "Way too many expensive electrical issues"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 1

"I don't know quite where to begin. I purchased my used, 2004 V8 AWD Touareg in November 2014. She is luxurious, comfortable, and sexy in every way but sure is darn deceiving. After three days of bliss, I started experiencing issue upon issue with my used Touareg. Upwards of $5,000 worth of pesky electrical work needs repairs, and today I had to watch my baby get hauled away on a tow truck to the shop because my key fabs stopped working and car won't start. She is beautiful and I love Blair (yes, she has a name), but I am frustrated with the endless issues that continue to arise. It may have been because of a bad dealer who didn't perform the 100,000 service check like they said they did. I'm hoping after these problems are fixed that it will be smooth sailing but I'm skeptical. I would not recommend buying a used Touareg."

Pros: "LOVE the way she corners, even at high speeds."

Cons: "Navigation is not good"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"I LOVE my Touareg 2! I have never once had any kind of issue with it. I have a very bad back and the comfort of the vehicle is A+, I can ride in her for hours. She is a beauty to look at and the body style is very stylish. There is plenty of leg-room for four and the tailgate is a breeze. I take very good care of her because I wish to keep her for years and she wants to look as good as she drives. My only complaint would be the navigation system, it's not user friendly, in fact I hope that VW has upgraded that."
