Electronic Stability Program (ESP) is made standard on all models, while the five-speed manual is no longer available on the four-door. New standard equipment for the four-door Rabbit includes heated front seats, heated washer nozzles and a premium audio sound system with SIRIUS Satellite Radio.
Despite a commonly-held belief that Americans don't like hatchbacks, the success of Volkswagen's long running two- and four-door modelsas well as the recent success of the MINI Cooper, Mazda Mazda3 and it's own GTIhas prompted Volkswagen to revive the beloved Rabbit hatchback. The "cute as a bunny" Rabbit replaces the Golf nameplate to become VW's entry-level economy model, offering a number of upscale safety and convenience features, a frugal new five-cylinder engine and a roomy and versatile interior. Despite its hefty standard content, the Volkswagen Rabbit manages a sticker price that won't leave consumers hopping mad, which should have sales multiplying like, well, Rabbits.

"I always think about what it would be like if I had got a different car. I constantly compare my Rabbit with other cars and always come back to the same conclusion: I could not have found a better car for me. 170 hp is better than anything else I was considering and makes accelerating from stops and out of corners entertaining.. It's rated at 29 mpg on the highway, but I have gotten it up in the mid 30s at times without trying to be too conservative. The rear seats fold nearly flat to make quite a bit of cargo space. The interior quality is top notch. Everything feels soft, grippy, and solid where it should. The lighting is very crisp and subtle at nighttime. There is red ambient lighting in the ceiling console that gives off the prefect amount of light to be able to see in the dark without flipping on the dome lights. The lane-change turn signal (tap the lever and the signal blinks 3 times) has become much more useful than I thought it originally would. There are only a few minor complaint that are easily resolved. The auxiliary input jack is in the glove box. I took care of that by getting a 6 foot cable that runs through the dash and center console and comes out near the hand brake lever (it sounds harder than it is). Another issue is the tires. Wider would be better, but I do have the most basic Rabbit possible and so it has the most economical tires that VW offers. A good set of wider all-seasons would make the twisties even more enjoyable. Some Winterforce tires would make the snow more manageable. The next car on my list was the Mazda3, but the hatchback comes in at a little over $2000 more. With the Rabbit, you can not find a quicker, nimbler car for the money with this much attention to detail. I could not be happier."

"I am leasing this vehicle and so far have absolutely loved every second I have spent in it. For an entry level compact car it has many more features than anything in its price range. It's sporty, has good get up and go, and even though it looks little from the outside, it has plenty of room. I have had men in the backseat who commented on the great leg room. I use mine as a commuter car mostly in town and I get way over the estimated MPG for city. I think the EPA has something against VW, all of their cars are rated way below what they should be!"

"Value: This car may be a little more expensive then other cheep daily drivers. However with this car you will automatically get power windows, cruise control, tilt steering and plenty of other things that make it an excellent buy. Reliability: Mine has seen a beating in its day and it still has yet to fail on me. Quality: All interior trim is well put together. Performance: I went in wanting to buy a GTI, came out with a Rabbit and was just as excited. It has a little less power feel to it but for thousands less the slight power loss didn't bother me. Styling: Volkswagens keep getting bigger but never stop looking good. Comfort: Took this car cross country multiple times and I loved every minute of it while in this car. Overall: Fun, quick, and quality. A good looking car for a good price."
