"I have owned my 06 Passat for one year. I absolutely love this car. It has great pick up, wonderful gas milage for its size, it's very comfortable, fun to drive, and just does everything well. I have black over tan and it is a very striking car in black. It really shows off the chrome.
I have had some chanllenges with the vehicle. However, I blame the dealer more than the car. It often takes several trips to the dealer to complete any minor repair. All repairs have been minor to this point.
I would higly reccomend this vehicle. I had been driving Accords since 1989. It was time for a change and this has been a wonderful experience.
As for the manual seats... I prefer them. My partner is 6'3" and I am 5'5". I never have an issue finding a comfortable position and adjusting everything to meet both of our needs. It is also done much more quickly than waiting for the power motors to move you. I traded in a 5 mo. old Lexus is250 with power seats because I couldn't get comfortable."
"This car has pickup at any speed. Great gas mileage for a car this size. Quiet, little road or wind noise. Cabin remains quiet with sun roof open. Great sound system. Easy to drive and comfortable on long trips. So far very reliable. Fit and finish is German precise. Negatives, seats can be a bit hard but I prefer that. Passenger seat is manual and is difficult to recline. Cruise control is a bit clumsy. Engine light comes on for stupid reasons like the gas cap is not on tight. I find it comes on when the weather is very hot."
"I have had this car since October 2005 when they first came out with the new model. I have driven extensively in it and have had no problems whatsoever in regards to performance. The only issue I have had is the door handle started peeling and the lock/window buttons began to bubble, but they replaced those no questions asked. I have had great luck with VW's, I previously leased a 2003 Jetta and had NO problems with it at all! I think VW puts out a good quality vehicle for the price."
"This is my second VW, my first was a 2005 VW Golf which I loved! I like the siz of this vehicle and for $15,000 less then the A6 which shares the platform, but it turns just as many heads. I have not had any problems thus far with the vehicle. I live in an area with a lot of snow potential and the vehicle handled well when I needed it to. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone looking for Audi features without the Audi price tag."
"We leased a loaded 2007 3.6 4Motion VW Passat. We appreciated the value for the loaded option list, comparable to an Audi or BMW The first 8 months were great,.,,THEN....the antilock brakes began to fail, THEN....the engine timing chain broke, our dealer took the car in for repairs..2 ENGINES LATER..and 40 days in the shop..brakes still malfunctioning. We are requesting refund, based on the prevailing LEMON LAW in effect in our state. Be wary!!!!"
"I actually held of on this review to see if the vw reliability had REALLY improved. after driving the new passat for the last year, i have decided that VW is my new marque, it has given me worry free performance and reliability with safety to boot. the service i recieved from my local dealership in Fairfax has been exceptional, i dealt with hondas, mazdas, and toyotas all my life and have never recieved such service in the sales or service end of it. heres a praise VW, keep up the good work!"
"Bought this car new. Great power, stylish, cool features. However, would not recommend the car. Used 2 quarts of oil in 10,000 miles. Several sensor issues and repairs in the 30,000 miles I have owned it. Would suggest looking at other vehicles if looking for reliability."
"This has been the worst experience with a vehicle I have ever had. My PAssat is approximately 1year old and it has been in the shop 4 times for the a/c, which each took 3 weeks to fix, once for the check engine light and now I went to start it yesterday , the battery is dead. Looks like another trip to the dealership for me because they make these cars so you have to bring it to the dealership. Do yourself a favor and stay away from VW. I will, once I trade this one in."
"This is my second passat and I must admit I loved it. BUT I'm kind of tired of keep going to the dealership to check the warning lights. "already 5 times in a year" I think in a brand new car this is not aceptable. Everything else is fine. Once I'm done with this car I will probably go and try something else but VW."
"The 2006 Passat is a great car to own and drive. It has great styling with the quality that you would expect from Volkswagen / Audi. It has a sports car-like handling, so the ride is a bit stiff and not luxurous. It is a great car to drive to work -- good gas milage without a loss of performance. It has all the ammenities of more expensive luxury sedans."
"This is my first VW and definitely NOT my last. The 2 liter turbo engine performs very well and interior fit and finish is great. I average 28.5 MPG on my daily 20 mile commute to work. I have had more people compliment this car than my previous BMW X3. This car has excellent quality paint, with almost no orange peel, so much better than the awful garbage they call paint on BMW's. I love this car and VW will definitely be on the top of the list for my next car.
My one gripe is that the rear seats are reclined to far and they cant be adjusted."
"I've had my Package 2 2.0 for 12 months now, have put about 12,000 miles on the OD. Purchased used for about 26k (7k below sticker). I enjoy the pick up of the engine, gas milage has exceeded expectations (33.8 MPG on 1200 mile road trip last month), handling is a little mushy. If you like to corner quick around the city, go with the sport package. My gripe: the driving postion of the seat is driving me crazy. I don't understand the VW/AUDI seat adjustments, I can't get the seat to where it is comfortable. I know it sounds crazy, but a $32k new sticker car should come with power seats - most 2.0 Passats don't. You have to be comfortable in the car you drive, and the driving position of the PASSAT is the worst i've ever experienced - because you can't adjust out of it. My suggestion to anyone who is looking at this car is go with a Wolfsburg 2.0 package, or to the 3.6 (VR6 in 2008) - best value in the line with the additional features that VW offers."
"I've had the 3.6 for a year and a half and the performance is spectacular. The car is a ball to drive and it gets surprisingly great mileage even when pushed.I consistently get 30 on the highway doing 70 and in the low 20's in the city. I was nervous about VW quality but have had zero issues with this car. I have owned much more expensive cars but this one blows away past Jags and a Llexus. If you can go for the sport package- the seats are awesome."
"After 8 months of ownwership and more than 20,000 miles I consider this the most 'fun-to-drive' car I ever owned. Acceleration, Trcation and Handling is just superiour to anything in it's class. In contrast to the US and Japanese cars you still feel the 'grip' on the road and the power of the 280hp engine. Fuel economy is much better than indicated. I am doing more 80% of my driving on highways and interstates going usually 75-85 miles and get between 27 and 30 miles per gallon. In city traffic I am down to 20-23. The 4-motion is great, especially on slippery roads and on snow and ice in winter. The wagon style allows me to haul my family."
"My wife and I are extremely happy with this car, we bought one in March of 2006 (#8 off of the line) and at 12,000 miles we traded it in for another in January of 2007, the only thing we didn't like is the light grey leather. So we traded for a car with black leather....The stainless trim in the second care looked tacky so we had the dealer pull it all out and put the burlwood trim in ..."
