Pros: "Great ride, look great, easy maint, hauls a lot"

Cons: "foil around gear shift peels"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9

"We purchased on 08 wagon from a family with kid so we expected some wear and tear on the inside but it's actually really nice, except for the finish around the gear shift. That part has peeled and there's some scratches here and there. The drive is fantastic. Very comfortable and we get great gas mileage. Most repairs and maintenance we've done ourselves for cheap. We have two major upkeep charges coming up for 100k miles and those are under $2k for both. I'd say this car is a great value. We can haul our large family on camping trips comfortably and safely."

Will keep for at least 10 years

Pros: "Fast and great gas mileage"

Cons: "None"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"2.0 T: Fun to drive - great acceleration, great torque. I'm usually getting 27 or 28 miles per gallon, and I don't think I've ever had less than 25 mpg. Extremely reliable - I bought this new, and haven't had any problems. Even my base model is strikingly high quality."

Pros: "Drives great."

Cons: "Poor overall quality."

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 1

"Too many minor failures, door locks, rear seat fold downs, poor paint etc. Uses premium fuel and oil. Miles per gallon too low. But looks good, drives great and is comfortable. With back seats down, trunk is huge but one seat will not unlock and fold."

Pros: "well rounded vehicle + great reliability"

Cons: "nothing of note"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"I bought my Passat Wagon in 1988 as I had just retired and my yearly mileage went from 50K+ down to under 7K. Most of which was city driving mainly carrying my two dogs. The 2L turbo is not the most fuel efficient for the type of city driving I do (average 19mpg of premium)but longer trips gave me more than 28+ mpg. It is surprisingly sporty and will cruise at 80+ (if you are not careful). This the longest I have kept a vehicle and it has never let me down. One of the most reliable vehicles I have ever owned.I service it every 6 months, it neither leaks oil nor uses oil between services. I would confidently recommend this car to anyone. It has the added advantage of an electronic parking brake which will hold the car on any hill and release with the touch of the accelerator, has and excellent and fast AC / heating system and heated seats.(The driver's seat also warms your back)"

Pros: "nice durable interior"

Cons: "in the shop again and again......"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 1

"Interior held up pretty well and car is pretty quick with the turbo but constant repairs over the entire ownership of the car were very costly and annoying. Dash lights coming on constantly. Never ever will I buy another VW product."

"I have owned this car since new and the quality, power, handling have exceed my expectations. I am trading my VW in on an Audi, and am going to be sorry to let it go. No issues with reliability, comfortable, and a great daily driver."
