Narrow year range (drag arrows to filter):
The New Beetle is reduced to one, well equipped trim level. New features for 2009 include heated seats and washer nozzles, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob and a leather handbrake cover.
The New Beetle remains a popular choice among those seeking a less conventional mode of transportation. Touting a shape based on the original Beetle (popularly known as the "Bug"), the New Beetle's easily recognizable shape creates what must be the most lop-sided interior dimensions of any car in its class. While the sloping hatch creates a nearly unusable rear seat, the arching dome roof provides an unbeatable 38-inches of front headroom, making the New Beetle the new friend of the tall and very tall. Unfortunately, the roof design also creates some massive blind spots around the windshield pillars. Strict new emission standards force the removal of the fuel-miserly TDI diesel option for 2007, leaving the new 150-horsepower 2.5-liter as the sole engine choice.

"I've had my bug for 8 years. Oill, Tires and a lot of headlights later it looks and feels like it did when it was new. Strangers ask if the flowers in the vase are real. Or they ask if it comes with the flowers. It is great on snow and I live in a very hilly city. Mileage is good - about 33 city. It holds more than you can imagine."

"My wife was an owner of this car, and had a horrific accident with it yesterday at 50 mph into another car that turned in front of her. Being as compact and short up front, I was truely impressed with how well it took the crash. It was completely totaled, but the car protected my wife from being really hurt or killed. She was able to walk away from a bad accident with little injuries (a little whiplash is about it.) I truly cannot thank VW enough for making such a safe vehicle!!! This was a reliable vehicle also, and great on gas mileage. This car will be missed!!"

"Unlike some reviewers, I'll mention that with every car company, there will be issues or lemons. There is no denying that. In all honesty, my 2001 Beetle GLS 1.8T has been trouble free since I bought it used in 2005. of course replacing the clutch and tires don't count since they are wear down with use. This car was driven from coast to coast 3 times with no problems. If you maintain your vehicles, it should be fine, for those who had bad experiences, I feel for you. Like I said, it can happen to any car manufacturer, you just don't hear about it as much unless you join those related forums. I have been on Honda forums and Toyota forums.. where people bash those cars because they are having issues. Overall, the car drives better than most other cars I have borrowed/driven. VW's are like most German engineered cars, meant to be driven."
