"Going to live abroad and can not take my cute car with me. Wanted to keep it forever. It has never let me down and still would last a very long time to come. Will be sorry to sell."

"My "Bug" has been a fun car to drive. It's never been back to the dealer for anything other than routine maintenance."

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 147,700
overall rating 1 of 10rating detailsPros: "convertible, fun to drive (when functioning)"
Cons: "expensive, always something wrong/broken, bad MPG"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 1
"Four years ago, I purchased a 2005 VW New Beetle Convertible GLS 1.8T used with 80,000 miles on it from a reputable dealer. The car had had one previous owner who completed routine maintenance and kept the car in the garage. Since the purchase, I've spent almost as much on repairs as I did the car itself! The transmission needed to be rebuilt after about 110,000 miles (appx. $4,500), the timing belt needed to be replaced at the same time (appx. $800, but if it'd broken first, appx. $4,000), the automatic window motors needed to be replaced in two of the four windows (apps. $200 each), both front axles needed to be replaced after 120,000 miles (appx. $150 each), the rear window glass has separated from the convertible roof (appx. $1800 for new roof and labor, bottom-of-the-line quality), and the electronic system in the car is temperamental (some days, instead of starting the car when the key is put in the ignition, the horn sounds). With almost 150,000 miles on it, the transmission needs more rebuilding or replacing (I've resorted to using the tiptronic transmission more than the automatic), and the engine is having misfire problems. Not to mention that it runs on premium and gets between 19-21 MPG rather than the advertised 22/28. I drive 40 miles on the highway (minimal traffic) every day with cruise control (which sometimes shuts off for no apparent reason)! I would NEVER recommend this car to anyone! I am a very dissatisfied customer who will likely never drive another Volkswagen!"

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 141,111
overall rating 6 of 10rating detailsPros: "44-55 mpg consistently, corner hugger, sweet style"
Cons: "plastic, electrical system sucks, suspention"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 1
"I like my car for one thing, its a diesel which means it never broke down on me (accept for a few occations in the begining when it was drinking oil cuz its a turbo) and i get consistently around 48 miles per galon city and hiway driving. And 44 mpg is the absolute worse i did when i was late everywhere making large black smoke clouds and squealing tieres. However all the good Ends here. I owned it for over a year and although i got it in pretty bad shape and fixed it up the things just keep breaking on it. First every 15 thousand miles front bushings on the control arms go out of order and super cheap on rock auto so i ordered 8 for the future. Also metal skid plates if you plan to drive in snow or dirt its a must because front actually has high end low to the ground suspention on our cars. Now actually non mechanical stuff interior is plastic i mean really just plastic my inner door sills broke and i cant find any good ones on the junk yard so i use peice of seatbelt to close my door. my front speakers went first and mysteriously turn on and off on occations and stereo is really bad in the car and i cant fit a good one in the trunk cuz its tiny. Headlights take turns on when turn on and off until i replaced them. Fan in my Conditioning system went out one beautiful february day and turn on and off mysteriously as well long story short car has huge electrical problems so im just happy it starts and drives. thats about the only good i get out of it but thats all you need for a daily driver right? haha"

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 9,600
overall rating 10 of 10rating detailsPros: "Loads of fun, parks in any tight spot"
Cons: "Seat hard to adjust for shorty"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10
"Bought my bug new in 2008 and have not had one bit of trouble with the car. I did have to buy a tire because I hit a huge rock in the road(approaching vehicle), but I cart around town and went to Florida in 2009 and had a ball. I am not a young sprout so I don't drive it every day, as you can tell, but my other car, 2011 Lincoln TC has less miles than my precious bug. I did purchase a 5speed manual transmission because I love shifting gears (reminds me of my teenage years). I have no complaints, but my little bug has not been run to death or rawhided and is taken very well care of by its owner(an old woman)."
